A Colorful Workout Plan

It’s a challenge to spice up decor options in a gym, but at Muscle Up–a private boutique gym in Clayton–we made the most of the space and architecture to create an utilitarian atmosphere that stands out from its competition. This two-phase project began with the main areas: the entryway foyer and the main workout area. With (several) fresh coats of paint as the first change we made to shake things up, we had a great base to focus on quality extras that take the overall look to the next weight class.

All in the Details

A George Nelson light fixture is the focal point of the foyer, accented by custom-made stainless steel counters and a large painting by St. Louis-based artist Chad Lawson. As an extra detail, the hand railings were wrapped in athletic tape so they would bear wear and tear.

Utility Meets Style

Overall, the main areas of the gym needed to be functional, so in addition to the unique color palette that highlighted the architecture, all of the floors and draperies were replaced to add stylish details without becoming overwhelming.
